I’m not too sure what the fascination is with birds and the elderly here in Singapore, maybe something to do with the fact that they’re small, not very noisy and fairly cheap to take care of. There is a series of pet shops across the road from mine in Serangoon North Ave 2 mostly selling birds, of all sizes and species, and the food courts nearby have seating areas with modified roofs and poles where you and your buddies may hang your bird cages while you coffee or dine. Looking at these photos I took yesterday though, it doesn’t look like a very happy or spacious place for these colourful avian creatures.
