Spending my younger days and occasional holidays in Singapore, exposure to a variety of food is unavoidable. One of the many kinds of foods I really enjoy is Malay food, both the sweet and the savoury. Below is a photo of a Ketayap, a sort of rolled up (pandan-flavoured) crepe I guess with grated sweet (palm sugar/gula melaka) coconut stuffing. Yesterday was the first time in months that I’ve had anything like this for dessert and it was oh so satisfying. If only they costed as much as they do in Singapore or Malaysia. In any case, whether you’re a coconut lover or not, if you’re in Melbourne, head down to Straits of Malacca and get some!
